Sara Genevieve (Genni) Sasnett

Before her retirement in January 2014, Genni Sasnett was the COO for St. Jonh’s Community Services, a non-profit agency headquartered in the District of Columbia and at the time serving people with disabilities in 100% facility-free services in DC, NJ, TN, VA, and PA. During her tenure at St. John’s, she served as the President of vaACCSES from 2000-2002. Genni served as National Subject Matter Expert for the Office of Disability Employment Policy ODEP), US Department of Labor and the Institute on Community Inclusion (ICI) at the University of Massachusetts Boston, post-retirement from St. John’s. Her consultative work focused on providing direct support to private provider agencies, assisting them with conversion from sheltered work and other segregated services to competitive, integrated employment. She also provided technical assistance in the development of community-based day support that facilitates the acquisition, retention, and advancement of competitive, integrated employment. Genni worked with provider agencies in AL, DC, PA, MI, WI, IA, GA, IL, UT, LA, ME, and MD on provider transformation through the Office on Disability Employment Policy (ODEP). Genni is one of four authors of “Provider Transformation 1.0” and is an author and co-editor of “Provider Transformation 2.0.” Both publications are manuals produced under the auspices of ODEP. Genni earned an undergraduate degree in Special Education from Georgia State University and holds a master’s degree in Transitional Vocational Special Education from George Washington University. She was the proud recipient of AAIDD’s Service Award in 2012 and APSE’s professional award in 2018.
