Transition from
Early Intervention
Exploring Your Child’s Path After Early Intervention
The transition process includes learning about all your options—there is no one-size-fits-all solution.
When your child turns three or transitions out of Early Intervention (Part C), a new chapter begins—and with it, many possible paths. Some children may be eligible for special education services through the public school system (Part B), but this is just one of several options. Not every child needs—or qualifies for—special education.
Depending on your child’s needs, you might consider:
- Inclusive preschool settings where children with and without disabilities learn together
- Community-based programs or private preschools
- Specialized settings that offer more targeted supports
Inclusive environments often provide supports like speech therapy, behavioral strategies, or classroom modifications—even if your child does not have an IEP.
Every child is unique, and so is every path forward. As your child turns three, take time to explore all your options. With the right information and support, you can make the decision that fits your child—and your family—best.
