Lauren comes to us by way of New York, North Carolina, New York again, and then Texas. A little North, a little South, and now she is juuust right. She is many things: a book lover, a dog mom, a doctoral student, but one of the things she is proudest to be is a person with a disability. As someone with 31 years of lived experience and a professional background in voting accessibility, alternatives to guardianship, school transition, and competitive integrated employment, she gets “it.” She has spent the last 9 years working with Easterseals, then The Arc of Texas, the Health and Human Services, and the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities, changing policies to better meet the needs of her community. She has also developed countless resources, trained hundreds of self-advocates, families, and providers on all those topics listed above, and initiated partnerships between state agencies to address concerns around working while receiving Social Security/Medicaid benefits. When you chat with Lauren, you will be communicating with an experienced and knowledgeable partner who cannot wait to see you and your loved ones living your best, self-determined lives.
