Catherine King is a Program Assistant with a diverse career spanning entrepreneurship, customer service, research, operations management, quality assurance, and direct care. Over the past 34 years, she has owned and operated several businesses while also working as a Call Center Specialist, Research Assistant, Operations Specialist/Supervisor & Manager, Quality Assurance Interviewer, and PCA supporting older adults with a focus on dementia care. Catherine has also worked in both general and primary elections, and during the Decennial Census, she rose to become the highest-ranking female in Southwest Virginia for the U.S. Department of Commerce—ensuring rural communities were accurately counted and received vital resources.
Her advocacy journey began 29 years ago as the parent of a child with special needs. That experience led her to serve on her local SEAC, represent Region 6 on the Virginia Department of Education’s SSEAC (including time on the executive board and as secretary), and dedicate the last seven years to working as a Family Navigator. For the past three years, Catherine has also volunteered with NODA, always guided by the belief that her work and service must make a meaningful difference.
Fluent in Spanish, Catherine values connection, family, and community. Married for 30 years and the proud mom of three adult children, she considers her family—both her children and her pets—her greatest accomplishment. After losing her beloved black Labrador retriever, Onyx, four years ago, Catherine now shares her home with Mamba, her soon-to-be 5-year-old Yorkie lovingly nicknamed Mommy’s Baby, and Capri, her spirited 1-year-old Yorkshire Terrier known as Mommy’s Boss Lady. Outside of work, she enjoys true crime stories and brings warmth and humor to her team—often reminding others she’s not yelling, she’s just a proud NewyaRican.
