Catherine King is a Program Assistant with 34 years of diverse professional experience in entrepreneurship, customer service, research, operations management, quality assurance, elections, the U.S. Census, and direct care. During the Decennial Census, she became the highest-ranking female in Southwest Virginia for the U.S. Department of Commerce, helping ensure rural communities were accurately counted and received vital resources. 

  Catherine’s advocacy journey began 30 years ago as the parent of a child with special needs. That experience became the foundation of her lifelong commitment to advocacy. She served on her local SEAC for seven years and represented Region 6 on Virginia’s SSEAC for two terms totaling eight years, including service on its executive board and as secretary, and worked seven years as a Family Navigator. For the past three years, she has also volunteered with NODA (No One Dies Alone), supporting individuals with compassion and dignity. 

Fluent in Spanish and proudly Spanish NewyaRican, Catherine values family, connection, community, and meaningful service. Married for almost 32 years and the proud mother of three adult children, she considers her family her greatest accomplishment. 

Catherine brings warmth, humor, and authenticity wherever she goes. She enjoys true crime stories and life with her Yorkies, Mamba and Capri. And if you ever hear her say, “I’m not yelling, I’m just a proud NewyaRican,” know that it’s always said with love—and usually a laugh.
