"The Arc of Virginia had a very successful year. The Arc's major role of advocacy for persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities was carried out with passion, commitment and hard work ... thanks are in order for the Board of Directors, local Chapters, members and our sister organizations for their dedication to improve the system of supports for consumers and their families. We look forward to more positive changes in 2009."
- Howard Cullum, President
A Curriculum for Women with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities | Registration Form (PDF)
Would you like to support women with intellectual and developmental disabilities to achieve better health and participate more actively in their health care? If so, this free workshop is for you and can prepare you to facilitate sessions for women with disabilities in your community. Due to the nature of the class content, training participants are suggested to be women. The training will provide you with a copy of the curriculum, allow you to become familiar with the activities, and get hands-on experience with materials. For more information contact Monica Uhl, Project Director, Virginia Health Promotion for People with Disabilities Project, at 804.828.8587 or muhl@vcu.edu

Virginia is one of 31 states participating in a five-year, $1.75 billion Money Follows the Person ("MFP") Demonstration project designed to create a system of long-term services and supports that better enable individuals to transition from certain long-term care institutions into the community. This project supports Virginia's Olmstead initiative and complements the efforts of the recently awarded Systems Transformation Grant that aims to improve the infrastructure for community-based long-term supports. Virginia's MFP project, administered by the Department of Medical Assistance Services, will make over $28 million in federal Medicaid funds available to support Virginia's seniors and individuals with disabilities.
The "MFP" project is now underway. The "Operational Protocol" serves as Virginia's program manual or Guidebook for the project. This Guidebook has been approved by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; also, access the guidebook.
An MFP Housing and Transportation Resource Bank has recently been added to the website. The resource bank includes information about how individuals can access housing and transportation, and the work that is being done to increase available, affordable and accessible housing and non-Medicaid transportation in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
