The Support Network for Families in Early Intervention

Congratulations on the new addition to your family! On this new journey things can become overwhelming but we are here to help. We are here to provide you with individualized resources that may improve your family’s quality of life.

Getting children started in Early Intervention is very important.  We find that parents need support,  individualized resources and so much more. New Path will guide them as their child moves through Early Intervention and transitions to the next steps of their life.

What is Early Intervention?

Early Intervention (EI) is a system of supports and service that helps infants and toddlers with developmental delays and disabilities.

EI assists children with reaching their developmental milestones that usually occur within the first years of life.  Not only do they aid in helping the child but they collaborate with the parents on how to incorporate these skills into every day activities.

Is your child eligible for early intervention services in Virginia?
A child and family may receive early intervention supports and services if the child is: up to three years old and has certain levels of developmental delay, differences in development and/or a diagnosed condition.

A child with a developmental delay or differences in development is not developing like other children their age. The delay or difference can be in one or more of the following areas:

Thinking, learning and playing
Understanding and using sounds, gestures and words
Taking care of one's self, including eating and dressing
Moving, seeing and hearing
Developing relationships

A child is eligible who has a diagnosed condition that will very likely cause a developmental delay. This includes:

Genetic disorders
Cleft lip and/or palate
NICU stay of greater than or equal to 28 days
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Vision and/or hearing loss

Early Intervention is federally mandated and programs are administered on the state level.  Each state establishes its criteria within the parameters set by the federal government.   Find your city or county on the Central Directory Website.
