The Individual and Family Support Program

The Individual and Family Support Program (IFSP) is designed to assist individuals on the waiting list for the Developmental Disability Waiver Program to access short-term resources, supports, and services that will help them remain in their own community homes. The settlement agreement between the Commonwealth and the U.S. Department of Justice on Virginia’s Intellectual and Developmental Disability System requires the IFSP to run until 2021.

The VA Dept. of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services(DBHDS) has not announced the 2016-17 IFSP funding period.  It will be posted on the DBHDS website.

October 2016 update: The State Council for the IFSP held its first meeting in October. The newly hired IFSP Community Coordinator will work with the State Council and the five Regional Advisory Committees to develop a comprehensive strategy to support individuals with a developmental disability and their families.
